Paper & Cardboard

Paper & Cardboard

Overview

Paper and cardboard, including office paper, old corrugated cardboard (OCC), discarded books and packaging materials, are valuable recyclables. Clean waste can be reprocessed into new paper products, while contaminated items are often used to produce refuse-derived fuel (RDF). Recycling conserves resources and reduces carbon emissions. Shredding is a key pretreatment step—it downsizes material for efficient sorting and creates uniform fragments for better combustion in fuel conversion. This process enhances both recycling rates and energy recovery.

Common Disposal Process

The common disposal process for paper and cardboard typically begins with feeding the material via a belt conveyor into a Double Shaft Shredder for initial coarse shredding. The shredded fragments then pass through a Magnetic Separator to remove metal contaminants. For finer output, the material is further processed by a Single Shaft Fine Shredder. Finally, depending on the purpose, the shredded product can be compressed into bales using a Hydraulic Baler or formed into RDF pellets with a Pellet Mill for use as solid fuel.

Note: This outlined process represents a general configuration, which is customizable to meet specific feedstock and final product requirements.
