AIShred 2017-09-20

After the introduction of the new environmental protection law in 2013, the hazardous waste treatment industry moved towards the forefront. With the gradual implementation of the "13th Five-Year" planning and the introduction of Action Plan for Soil Pollution Prevention and Control and other regulations, the development of hazardous waste treatment industry continues to heat up. China's hazardous waste production is huge. At the same time, the scale of the hazardous waste treatment industry still has considerable expansion space; the processing capacity will be greatly improved; and the market space with hundreds of billions RMB Yuan will be released.

The market prospect of China's hazardous waste treatment industry is broad. At present, a large number of hazardous waste did not enter the formal disposal market. During the 13th Five-Year planning, with the expanded of the scope of hazardous waste, increased of the market scale and strengthened of the supervision, there will be more and more incremental hazardous waste to enter the market; it will also promotes China's hazardous waste processing industry moving toward an orderly and high-speed development. According to forecast of Market Forecast and Investment Analysis Report of China's Hazardous Waste Treatment Industry, released by Foresight Industry Research Institute, by 2020, China's hazardous waste market is expected to form a scale more than 200 billion RMB Yuan.

There is a huge gap in the ability to deal with hazardous waste in China. It is supposed that the actual output of the China's hazardous waste may be as high as 100 million tons. That means, at present, China's effective hazardous waste treatment capacity is only about 15%. There is a huge gap between the treatment capacity and output capacity.

2006-2015 the actual hazardous waste treatment capacity (unit: 10 thousand tons)

From the distribution of China’s hazardous waste treatment capacity gap, China's hazardous waste treatment market is mainly concentrated in the eastern seaboard areas. In this area, the economy is well developed and produced a large amount of hazardous waste. In Northwest of China, the economy and traffic is under-developed; In Qinghai and Guizhou Provinces even don’t have the centralized landfill facilities; in these areas, the hazardous waste treatment capacity is insufficient.

The market concentration of China's hazardous waste treatment industry is very low. The data shows that, at present, 99% of China's hazardous waste treatment enterprises are private enterprises. The average processing capacity of more than 2000 enterprises dealing with hazardous waste in China is only 20,000 tons. Most of them are the enterprises with processing output capacity of less than 10,000 tons.

In addition, there are still some problems in the management of hazardous waste in China. First, the issue of illegal transfer of hazardous wastes is outstanding; there is a large number of hazardous waste free from supervision with the whereabouts unknown. Second, there are defects in the whole process system design; there are many blind spot and plugging point defects in the storage and collection of hazardous wastes. Third, the supervision force of hazardous waste is weak; and there is a serious shortage of regulators.

Obviously, China's hazardous waste treatment industry has great potential development in the future. The market still has vast tracts of land awaiting reclamation. Whether they are the leading enterprises, cross-border capitals or small companies are expected to share the left more than half of the cake.
